by Hospitals are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, caring for Hoosiers, and providing testing. The State of Indiana tapped on hospitals to be part of its newly formed Laboratory Testing Network to expand access to testing for Hoosiers. The Laboratory Testing Network is a newly formed partnership between the State of Indiana, Eli Lilly and the Indiana Hospital Association.
This trio of organizations worked together to form a lab network across Indiana, originally made up of 10 locations to help to expand testing capacity in Stage 4 of Governor Holcomb’s reopening plan. Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box said these labs were already running COVID-19 tests, but their capacity was restricted because of limited supplies and equipment at the time.
“The network will leverage the state’s buying power to more efficiently compete for supplies, equipment and for reagents with both the national and international manufacturers of those items,” Box says.
As new methods of testing become available, hospitals will be at the forefront to delivering new options to Hoosiers. More hospitals and health care systems continue to join the testing network.
